Val Chmerkovskiy wants to make sure that his and Jenna Johnson’s son will be getting all the privileges to pursue his dreams. The Dancing With The Stars couple recently talked about the future they want for their kid.
Val Chmerkovskiy Wants to Give Son Rome Easy Access to His Dreams
In their recent appearance on Sherri, Chmerkovskiy and Johnson discussed how they want one-year-old Rome to navigate his ambitions. When asked what they want their son to be given their dancing and musical background, Johnson said she just wants him “to be passionate about whatever he wants to do.” Chmerkovskiy, however, would want Rome to pursue the same sport.
“None of my parents paved the way for this career so I want to finally have a nepo baby. Like, if we have access, why not make it easier for him?” he said.
Nonetheless, regardless of his desire as a dad, Chmerkovskiy said he only wants Rome to do what he loves.
“The truth is, I just want him to be healthy and passionate like she said. And whatever he does, I want him to do in full-heart,” he said.
According to Johnson, “wanting to have kids together” has been a big part of their relationship since they were dating. As motherhood has always been a choice for her, welcoming Rome into the world was a “dream come true.” While she admits being a mom is “the hardest job” but is also the most “fulfilling” and “rewarding.”
Now, the pair is hitting the road for their gig in Dancing With The Stars Tour. This is such a special stint for the married couple who missed dancing for the tour due to their family milestones.
“Performing for our fans live has been so awesome. The fact that you know, the show accommodated our family to do it together. Rome’s on the road with us. He’s sleeping on a tour bus, it’s just wild,” she said.

He Says Winning Dancing With The Stars Season 32 Feels Like Breaking a Curse
Elsewhere in the interview, the couple talked about Chmerkovskiy’s recent Mirrorball Trophy win alongside actress Xochitl Gomez. Such sweet win is monumental for the DWTS pro who last won the show in season 23 with Olympic artistic gymnast Laurie Hernandez.
“It’s been a testament to everything I’ve been through,” he said. “Jenna and I have been runners-up and now that we’re a family, I mean her wins are my wins, her losses are my losses.”
The couple hadn’t won a Mirrorball trophy on DWTS for a long time, but interestingly, they were almost always on the verge of securing a win.
“So she was runner-up two years in a row and then I was runner-up last year and we were placed on the same spot. So this year, they placed me on the same spot in the bottom two. And this time, we broke the curse, and we were lucky enough to win,” he said.
In October 2023, DWTS pros performed a special routine choreographed by the couple to serve as tribute to late head judge Len Goodman. Explaining their creative process, Johnson said the task felt overwhelming at first.
“The show reiterated how important this piece was and how do you take so many years of an icon and put it into a three-minute dance. We knew what we had to do and so I think we were laser-focused in the process,” she said. “But then once we performed it, I wish I could have been in that room and felt that energy. No one made a sound. Everyone was crying the whole time.”
Reflecting on the moment, the DWTS pro stated that the choreography turned out to be “one of their favorite creations.”
