Olly Murs took to Instagram this week to update fans on his condition. The Voice UK coach had to undergo major surgery following an accident on stage. During a concert at Suffolk’s Newmarket Racecourse, a fragment of bone became logged in the back of his knee after jumping during the performance. An operation was performed on Mur’s left leg. He is determined to be present at his upcoming gigs.
Olly Murs Updates Fans on His Surgery Via Instagram
The 37-year-old singer was quick to update fans on his surgery following Friday’s incident:
“It was a mad 72 hours,” Murs said in the Instagram video. “After my second song, a fragment of bone that was in my knee after I jumped, managed to lodge itself in the back of my knee, which basically shut my leg down and during the gig I was just limping the whole time.”
The former X Factor star also underwent a previous knee surgery in 2019. He admitted that he was worried his career would be over if he damaged the joint again.
Murs initially believed he had ruptured his ACL, but was relieved with the alternative. With the surgery, he will be able to make a speedy recovery and continue on touring later this month. He is taking this time to rest in order to perform at his Newbury gig on the 14th, and at Singleton Park the following day. He warned fans that his performance would not be as energetic as usual. However, he is determined to show up and give whatever he’s got.
“I wanted to do this for you guys. It will be a different gig, I probably won’t be running around like I normally do,” he continued on in the video. “There might be a stool for me to sit down on, but I cannot cancel these gigs for you guys. It was such an amazing vibe on Friday at Newmarket so I will give it absolutely everything next week.”
Fans have since sent an astounding amount of support to the singer, and encourage the singer on his recovery.
From The X Factor Stage to The Voice UK
Now a coach on The Voice UK, this singer is no stranger to the stage. Before Murs had to deal with undergoing surgery, he stepped onto the music scene when he auditioned for The X Factor UK in 2009. He sang Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition.” Simon Cowell said it was the easiest yes he had ever given. He dominated in his performances on the show, and snagged the runner-up spot that season.
After the show, Murs was signed to RCA records and released his debut single, “Please Don’t Let Me Go.” The song entered the UK charts at number one, preceding six other number one singles. He is one of the most successful acts to not win the show.
Since 2018, Murs has been a successful coach on The Voice UK. He won the eight series with Molly Hocking, and the ninth with Blessing Chitapa.
