Comedian Nikki Glaser is not joking when she says she wants to begin a music career at 38 years old. After joining The Masked Singer, the television personality realized that it’s not too late to reach her ultimate childhood dream.
Nikki Glaser Reflects on Her The Masked Singer Journey
In an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Glaser recounted her pretty long journey in The Masked Singer season eight. For those who may not know, Glaser was the celebrity behind Snowstorm. At the time, it was indeed refreshing for the public to find out that a funny woman could actually sing, even behind a massive costume. Thus, for Glaser, joining the competition was more than an experience, but also a platform to break free from people’s preconceived notions about her.
“It’s nice to be in a mask because all the preconceived notions about yourself of like ‘I’m a comedian, what am I doing singing?'” she said. “I could just disappear in it.”
According to the aspiring musician, she had a lot of practice before she could sing “Since U Been Gone” by Clarkson. The comedian explained that she had to rehearse in showers and cars until she felt prepared for the song.
The Masked Singer alum told EW before that she had always wanted to go through the process of treating her voice like a musical instrument. Glaser thus believes that voice is something that one “can learn to use and to perfect.”
She Pursues Music Now, Wants to Sound Like Kelly Clarkson
Now, Glaser is vocal in saying that she is pursuing music already. Elsewhere in the interview, she revealed that Clarkson is one of her inspirations.
“You’re such an inspiration in a way that it’s like too lofty,” she told the pop star. “I’m taking voice lessons right now and I just got a new teacher.”
Furthermore, the comedian mentioned a hilarious story where her vocal coach told her that she can be anything she wants. Glaser quickly answered that she wants to sound like Kelly Clarkson, but her coach casually responded “except that.”
“I love doing comedy, I’m on tour right now, nothing feels vulnerable and like makes me feel alive as doing comedy,” she said. “But there’s something just so emotive and sincere about singing. I was like, ‘I gotta chase this. I don’t know. I’m 38, pursuing a new career but who cares?”
In high school, Glaser let her singing dream die when her voice teacher discouraged her. Now however, she’s ready to share her feelings and thoughts through music.
