Reading Time: 2 minutes
Former The Voice coach Kelly Clarkson recently revealed the personal reason she chose not to return to the show for the upcoming Season 22. As it turns out, the singer just really wanted some time off to herself for once.
Kelly Clarkson Shares Why She Left ‘The Voice’
During a recent interview on Today with Hoda Kotb and The Voice host Carson Daly, Clarkson opened up about sitting out this season’s filming of the show over the summer. She shared that the last time she had a summer off was when she was 16 years old.
“You don’t get summers off generally unless you’re in high school,” Clarkson acknowledged. “But I just hadn’t had a minute, and it’s obviously been a rough couple years. So it was really important to me to, like, shut down for a minute.”
When asked how she spent her time off, Clarkson said she “four-wheeled in the mountains.” She said it was nice that she and her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock were both in Montana, so the kids didn’t have to travel far to be with both of them.

Clarkson Is Starting a New Season of Her Talk Show
It’s also understandable that Clarkson would want some time off from The Voice since she’s about to start up her talk show again. The new season of The Kelly Clarkson Show kicks off September 12. The singer recently announced a contest to find a Kellyoke duet partner.
As for when fans can expect a new album from the singer, Clarkson revealed earlier this year that it’s been a struggle to release new music in the midst of her recent divorce. She said she’s “navigating what I’m comfortable with releasing.”
While Clarkson left her spinning chair empty this season, The Voice recruited new coach Camila Cabello and welcomed back on-and-off coach Gwen Stefani. They’ll be joined by returning coaches Blake Shelton and John Legend when the show returns September 19 on NBC.
