The time has finally come, Brooke Simpson officially released her first single since America’s Got Talent. This singer hoped to win the show to become the first indigenous pop , but this really proves she didn’t need to win the show to be successful. Today, Brooke premiered her first single since the AGT finale and let me be the first to tell you, it’s a bop!

Brooke Simpson Finds Her Sound After AGT

After sharing its release date daily on Instagram stories for over a week, Brooke definitely did not disappoint. I’m not really sure what I expected out of this singer, but I’m speechless in the best way possible. “You Only Had One Job” has a smooth pop groove and sassy lyrics. It plays like a break up song, but it isn’t an angry tune at all.

Along with the song, fans also received a visualizer video that featured Brooke lip syncing her own lyrics. The visuals of the singer really implement where sassy moments are within the song. The video itself is extremely simple, she is seated on a cube in this video and has the lyrics popping out around her.

Throughout America’s Got Talent, we saw some pretty great vocal performances out of this singer, so I couldn’t wait to hear something of her own since this competition. Prior to AGT Brooke released other music, but she didn’t really have a specific sound.

After hearing “You Only Had One Job,” it’s quite clear that the show helped Brooke find her sound. Vocally, there’s a huge range that Brooke can hit and It sounds like she chose the perfect spot for this song. Her voice sounds absolutely effortless in this release. I would describe the mixing of this tune as something we would normally hear from Ariana Grande, but her vocal range is within Alicia Keys’s tone and register.

Personally, I was Team Brooke going into the America’s Got Talent finale, however I wasn’t a huge fan of her last performance. Her duet with Bishop Briggs was filled with energy and was overall entertaining. I just didn’t think it was her best performance vocally. It felt like the singer was losing control of her voice when she was moving around the stage. Her prior performance of “White Flag” was more impressive when she stayed behind a microphone.

This song happily redeemed the artist for me. I’ve always thought she had a grand career ahead of her, but this song confirmed it for me. This is the type of song I could hear someone like Demi Lovato or Grande topping the charts with. I’m happy to see this AGT finalist thriving after winning fourth place in the competition. I seriously think she could join the list of well known acts that didn’t actually win their season.
