Britain’s Got Talent has faced some setbacks this season, but judge Alesha Dixon has some new details about what we can expect when the live shows start later this year. That includes some updates about Simon Cowell.
Simon fell off an electric bike last weekend and broke his back in multiple places, requiring surgery. Kelly Clarkson filled in for him on this week’s first America’s Got Talent live show.

Alesha Dixon Gives Update On Simon Cowell
Alesha Dixon told Metro that she’s been talking to Simon’s partner Lauren Silverman, who said Simon is “in good spirits” after surgery. “Obviously we’ve all been really concerned about him,” she said, “and we’ve all got our fingers crossed that he’s going to be joining us via a live link for the show.”

As she pointed out, Simon was already planning to appear via live stream for the semifinals, to avoid traveling out of the United States during the COVID-19 pandemic. “We love him and we need him there,” Alesha said, “and we will miss him terribly if he’s not. But, the last I heard he was doing well.”
Simon had to have a metal rod placed in his back after this weekend’s accident. He’s reportedly been up and walking, and is keeping busy working on an iPad from the hospital. AGT judge Howie Mandel predicted that Simon could be back on the show before the end of the season.

How Will The ‘BGT’ Live Shows Work This Season?
Production on Britain’s Got Talent had to shut down earlier this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, but the show will reportedly return for live shows this fall. Alesha Dixon spoke to Metro about what the show could look like.
She said the auditions, which were filmed before lockdown, gave people “a little bit of joy” at a difficult time. “Any glimmer of something light and fun, and a bit of escapism, I think people needed it,” Alesha said. “With the live shows coming back around, I think people will be really pleased to see them… Britain’s Got Talent, the show belongs to the nation.”

“It’s going to be different, it’s going to be a bit strange, obviously we’re going to have a virtual audience,” Alesha added. “I don’t know what to expect, there’s still a lot of things I’m waiting to find out, as to what’s going to be happening, but it certainly will be one to remember.”
She shared that the judges would be in the studio, socially distant from each other. She said it would be “strange” not to be able to hug people. Although she said she’s “a little bit in the dark” about what will happen, she shared that the audience will still be “the fifth judge” through voting.
