One of the most anticipated acts on America’s Got Talent Season 17 is Mayyas Dance Crew. The all-female dance group from Lebanon previously won Arabs Got Talent and also appeared on Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions.

Mayyas Dance Crew Won Arabs Got Talent

Nadim Cherfan founded Mayyas Dance Crew after beginning his dance journey at the age of nine. Even though he loved the art, he felt there wasn’t enough representation in Lebanon. Chefan created Mayyas Dance Crew exactly nine months ahead of the Arabs Got Talent competition in 2019. The group was an instant hit, for the audience and judges. During Mayyas Dance Crew’s audition, judge Najwa Karam hit the Golden Buzzer for them. They went on to win the entire season.

The group performs mesmerizing choreography, famously starting out with the members standing in a row so only one dancer can be seen at the front. The other members’ arms appear from behind her, creating beautiful formations before the rest of the group is revealed.

Later in 2019, Mayyas competed on Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions, earning a standing ovation from the judges for their routine. Alesha Dixon praised the group’s “armography.” Amanda Holden called them a “fantastic representation of Arabs Got Talent.”

Before their performance on BGT: The Champions, the group shared that they have “zero dance opportunities” in Lebanon. They also emphasized how significant it is that they are an all-female group from the Middle East.

The Group Is Performing on ‘AGT’ Season 17

Mayyas Dance Crew is excited to share their artistry with America’s Got Talent Season 17. They’ve been featured in a preview for this season, telling the judges, “Being here is our only chance to prove what Arab women can do.”

The group posted their excitement about auditioning for AGT on Instagram, writing, “We are honored to be the first Lebanese/Arab dance company to stand on such a stage and showcase our talent and potential.”

The group hasn’t been posting very frequently to social media, but last November, they teased a new project called “Mayyas the Musical,” which they described as “a 30-minute theatre play full of dreams and tales.”

Could Mayyas Dance Crew earn another Golden Buzzer on AGT? We’ll find out during Tuesday’s new episode on NBC at 8/7c.
