Who will Wales support at the 2024 Euros?

For many, a blessed break from the general election campaign will be the start of Euro 2024, which kicks off this Friday. Both England and Scotland made the tournament this year, but Wales did not, having heartbreakingly lost on penalties to Poland during play-offs in the qualifying stages.

More will support the Three Lions than the Tartan Army

For many, a blessed break from the general election campaign will be the start of Euro 2024, which kicks off this Friday. Both England and Scotland made the tournament this year, but Wales did not, having heartbreakingly lost on penalties to Poland during play-offs in the qualifying stages.

So who, if anyone, will Wales be supporting at the coming competition? Close to half of Welsh people (47%) say they will watch at least some of the tournament, including a quarter who expect to watch “a great deal” or “a fair amount” of it (28%).

The Three Lions can expect to be the main beneficiaries of Wales’s failure to qualify, with 45% of Welsh tournament-watchers saying they will support England. One in five (20%) say they will be supporting the Tartan Army – these figures include 10% who say they will support both nations.

One in eight (12%) include a non-UK country on the list of teams they will be supporting (including 2% who say they will be backing ‘whoever England is playing’), while 25% say they will not support any of the teams playing.
